Kwa-Thema Library Book Club Inspires a Love for Reading

By Sbongile Sokela

The Kwa-Thema Library Book Club is a community of book lovers and friends of the library, founded by Joshua Twala. The club is based at Kwa-Thema Library and also has a virtual book club on WhatsApp.

Its purpose is to promote reading, encourage discussions, and help members build self-confidence. Members also attend events that focus on books and literature. The club meets once a week, every Wednesday, at Kwa-Thema Library.

One of the members, Thandi Mangethe, has a passion for reading and often shares self-help books from her personal collection with the group.

Joining the book club is easy, you can visit the library directly. Although there is no active social media page yet, you can contact Nthabiseng Mochesane on Facebook for more details. The club is working on creating and maintaining active social media pages to reach more people. Their aim is to bring more community members to the library, encourage them to borrow books, apply for library cards, and enjoy the services the library offers.

The book club is open to everyone, with no specific age limit.

Members benefit by boosting their self-confidence, improving communication skills, meeting different personalities, and attending events that help with networking. The club also participates in the Funda Mzantsi Championship, a national competition where members travel to George for a week with all expenses paid. Kwa-Thema Library Book Club members have proudly represented Gauteng for the past two years.
