Senior players participated in the Growthpoint Soweto Abadala Tournament hosted in Soweto in the past weekend. The two-day annual event endorsed by Tennis South Africa had over 120 participants in different age groups, flexing their strokes on Arthur Ashe courts in Soweto.
Five senior players from Kwa Thema Sparks Tennis Club put up a great fight with a formidable partnership of the Nkosi brothers, John and Fannie won the finals of men’s doubles in their age category. “We are happy to scoop the first position in the age 55 category with my brother, our win should encourage everyone in the community to come play and enjoy this interesting sport,” said John Nkosi. Ms Lefentse Nkosi occupied the seventh position in ladies’ in her category beating a Cape Town player 6-4 7-6 (8-6)
The junior team had its fair share of wins in the Gauteng East Wilson Challenge Tournament in Benoni on Sunday, the 2nd of May.
Mr. Moses Ngwenya who is a head coach, was happy with the performance of all the players, and he was thrilled that his tennis is expanding in Kwa – Thema, despite lacking proper and safe tennis courts.
