Kyotic Turns Life’s Highs and Lows Into Dancefloor Anthems

By Sbongile Sokela

Arnold Mdluli, aka Kyotic, a 32-year-old DJ and producer, has built his name and sound on the vibrant streets of Johannesburg. For him, the city is more than a backdrop, it’s where his journey began and continues to grow. “The city inspired the title. My life is in the city. Johannesburg CBD is where Arnold developed into Kyotic,” he said.

Together with his brother, King P, Kyotic built his unique sound through constant experimentation and unstoppable creative chemistry. “Sonic growth through experimental sound and of course the intense creative chemistry between my brother, King P, and me,” he added.

One of his recent tracks, Izibiliboco, reflects this journey. “It’s a feel-good song that encapsulates life’s ‘ups’ after hectic ‘downs’,” he explained.

Kyotic’s philosophy goes beyond music, it’s about growth. “I thrive on challenging myself in all aspects of my life, be it on the decks or on the computer. I measure growth through the implementation of everything I learn,” he said. “As a producer, I measure growth by feeling. And with this EP, everything I’ve mentioned embodies that.”

Known for keeping dance floors alive, he gravitates toward energetic music. “As a prime time DJ I gravitate more towards dance or anything upbeat because I understand the energy that themes exude when I play,” he shared.

His inspirations range from global stars to those closest to home. “Thakzin, Drake, Black Coffee, and now King P, because that’s bro for life,” he said proudly.

Looking ahead, Kyotic has big plans. “The goal is to expand the brand and heavily attach myself to the 3-Step genre as more than a DJ but an artist as a whole. I hope every word is heard and that every beat is felt.”

For Kyotic, the best part of the journey is the process of creation. “There’s no greater feeling than when a song finally comes together. Witnessing all the hands involved stamp their creativity on each song and it fitting so perfectly is an underrated experience.”

From the heart of Johannesburg to the world, Kyotic is ready to take his sound further than ever before.
