Local actor to establish an academy

Enthusiastic Khulekani Manqele (33) from Daveyton is determined to give young talented actors an opportunity to polish their acting skills.

“I love to teach young people what I know from the media industry that’s why this academy will continue to help and groom young passionate artists,” said Manqele.

After completing his matric at Vezukhono Secondary School, Manqele’s acting career officially kick-started in Bonakala Sports Arts and Culture, a community organisation that deals with drama, dance and poetry. At a later stage, he became a director and general manager of the organisation.

In 2011 he attended FUBA School of dramatic and visual arts doing acting, dance, and poetry under Patrick Mofokeng, then in 2013 he went to Triple Take Production for acting and voice training under Dorothy Aan Gould (acting coach).

“I did some theatre production performing in Johannesburg theatre, Windybrow theatre, and Market theatre respectively. In 2015 I joined a casting agency around Daveyton (Zane’s Artist Management).”

Manqele made his first appearance in Binnerlanders as a Porter in 2017 and recently appeared on Diep City as Ngcobo.

The Daveyton actor wishes to have his own TV soapie or drama that will depict young talent and share real-life stories. He is more inspired by the raving Duma Ndlovu.

“Currently I am a head talent scouter and facilitator at Zane’s and I recently shot a new movie on Netflix as a prison warder,”

“I would like to thank everyone who gave me a chance as an artist to grow, mostly to Mr. Zane for an opportunity to find myself in the industry.”
