The Ekasi Konexion Community Radio Station breeds successful results as they have recently conducted its Annual General Meeting at Emthonjeni Pre-School in Tsakane.
The meeting was attended by members of the station approved by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), independent observers from NCRF, and station managers.
“The meeting received important reports which include the chairperson’s report that painted some strides and challenges the organisation has had over the years.
“Some of the challenges require that all of us, together with our community to pull together in ensuring that the radio station becomes a success,” said chairperson Doctor Mdluli.
He added that Some of the highlights include the renovation and installation of the new broadcasting studio equipment
and backup power supply in the form of an inventor and a generator.
“ To maintain constant power supply on instances of unstable power supply like load shedding or load reduction,” he said.
He further mentioned that they are encouraged that the community radio station continues to be a training ground for many young people.
“The station offers experiential learning to many young people.
“The fact that the former current affairs and EKFM Talk producer Thapelo Sibanyoni is now a producer at the SABC national radio station is a genuine testament to what this radio station is capable of,” he added.
He said Sibanyoni is one of many that the radio station has empowered.
He added that the station aims to continue to provide an educational experience, aims to provide outreach programmes in collaboration with other stakeholders like Non-Governmental Organisations, and informs the public through engaging topics and discussions.
The meeting considered a variety of issues, which necessitate a need to thoroughly reflect on some of these matters that may warrant further engagement.
The meeting democratically elected the following members as the Board of Directors:
1. Chairperson – Mr. Doctor Mdluli
2. Deputy Chairperson – Mr. Thabang Mashiyane
3. Secretary – Miss. Eva Phahlane
4. Deputy Secretary – Mr. Molebogeng Mashego
5. Treasurer – Miss. Girlie Nkosi
