Executive Mayor, Alderman Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, accompanied by MMC for City Development and Real Estate Ald. Nomadlozi Nkosi led a multi-disciplinary anti-crime blitz in Kempton Park on Monday, 7 October. Mayor Xhakaza and the team visited some of the busy streets of Kempton Park’s central business district to deliver on the Mayor’s commitment to reclaim the city centres and neighbourhoods from the hands of criminals.
This ongoing programme has various focus areas including checking business and environmental safety compliance. The Kempton Park leg of the programme recorded several arrests for illegal immigration, and a few businesses and a primary school were also closed for non-compliance with by-laws. Some of the business transgressors included backyard illicit manufacturing liquor.
The clean-up programme for illegal activities will continue across the different areas of Ekurhuleni. “We need to make these interventions a norm in our communities to ensure we take back our streets from criminals and regain our secure safe spaces,” emphasised Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Ald. Xhakaza.
