Mbeki Mazisi Leads in Maths and Science at Windmill Park Secondary School.

By: Ncamiso Dlamini

In the academic arena of Windmill Park Secondary, where ambition fuels countless dreams, one name resonates with exceptional achievement, Mbeki Mazisi, the school’s top learner for both Mathematics and Physical Sciences. His success, however, is not a product of magic, but a story of profound discipline, a fighter’s mindset, and a meticulously crafted strategy for learning.

Mazisi’s approach to academia is forged in the same resilience he applies to his passion for football. “I tell myself that I will not be defeated by a non-living thing,” he states, a declaration that reveals the core of his character. This determination is matched by a remarkable work ethic. “I never rest in the middle,” he says, “I rest in the end.”

Behind his top marks lies a powerful and intentional system. He has audaciously deleted all social media platforms, save for YouTube, which he uses solely as an educational tool. His study process is a strict trio of techniques: watching explanatory videos, creating simplified summary notes, and employing what he calls ‘shadow teaching.’ “I act as if I’m teaching someone so that it enters and stays in my mind,” he explains. This is all governed by a strict study timetable, a blueprint that ensures his consistent performance.

He is quick to credit the support system around him, from his family to his teachers, highlighting his Mathematics educator and tutor for sparking his love for the subject. While focused intensely on his Grade 12 goals, he draws motivation from the stories of past high achievers, visualising his own path to success.

His advice to peers is both practical and profound. “Do what you love and give your 100% to it,” he urges. he drives away the myth that understanding is magical, emphasising that passion and engagement are the true keys. “Always be ahead in your books so that you can easily engage with your teachers in class.”

Looking forward, Mazisi’s ambitions extend far beyond the classroom. His dream is to attend university and successfully complete a degree, ultimately using his knowledge to creatively build and run his own business. Mbeki Mazisi is not just mastering subjects; he is mastering the discipline required to build a future, proving that at Windmill Park Secondary, excellence is a deliberate and achievable goal.
