Kamohelo Anathi Sphambo who goes by the stage name of Markhapolo is an uprising artist from Rondebult (Germiston). He is also known as MAKAPLAN, and he started his early years of primary school in Katlehong, he then moved to Daveyton while he was in grade 6.
His passion for music was inspired by his step-sister who loved music extraordinarily.
Markhapolo shared his journey of life with Ekurhuleni News, saying, “I moved to a school named Thopodi where I met people who loved what I loved as well, such as acting, singing as well as beat making. Then I met Arnold Mavimbela who was exceptionally good with beats whereas I was good in rap, we used to call the beats we did on tables, Casablanca. Sadly I had to move to an area called Rondebult where I attended high school, that’s where I met the people that I had known before. I reunited with my old friends then started a group called “Nine9c”. I love music more than anything and music saved me from a lot of things, because whenever I don’t feel happy I grab a pen and paper and use that phase to create a song and after that I normally feel better. Music has always been therapeutic for me even now. I have released three singles in my musical journey so far, the 1st one is ‘Thula Nana’, followed by ‘Black Lives Matter’ lastly ‘Zvambaramba’ produced by hardworking Gray beats and the Art boy Tevin. I have also worked with the likes of LA Smesh, Ghost Trap the Supreme, Million Miggza Mavati, bigger and MTK on his album.”
He encourages people who are going through a lot currently to believe in God because everything is possible. Believing in yourself is important. He expresses “fake it till you make it. I had a song titled Markhapolo hamba nge polo, it is just a dream I want to pursue and in this journey of music, people always judge but do not quit because of them. I’ve been through a lot in the studio some close people used to make fun of me, but now I’m independent and I’m doing my own thing if had quit I would not be where I am today. People always want to bring you down, but do not allow them, keep your head high, be positive and you‘ll prosper. I lost a friend and I would like to say Rest in Peace to him (Zuka Sphelele Luthuli), his musical journey is what I will carry till the end because I miss him dearly.”
