Sabelo Miya, a passionate entrepreneur from Thokoza in Ekurhuleni, is the founder of Miyano’s Lifestyle—a company dedicated to recognizing and celebrating excellence among learners. Miyano’s Lifestyle focuses on hosting awards ceremonies that highlight the achievements of students, with the aim of inspiring and motivating others to strive for success.
“We believe that in order for children to progress, they need to be encouraged and recognized. When one learner is awarded, others are inspired to work harder in hopes of being recognized too,” says Sabelo.
The company has a long-term vision: to continue awarding top learners from Grade 1 through to Grade 12. This journey recently took a significant step during the Kota Day event at Mega Primary School, where top achievers from Grade R to Grade 10 were honored.
“As much as the Kota Festival brought us to this school, I saw a greater need—to reward our Top 10 learners for their dedication and hard work,” Sabelo explained.
Miyano’s Lifestyle goes beyond academics, also covering awards in athletics, soccer, and other achievements. Their goal is simple: if it involves celebrating success, Miyano’s Lifestyle is there to make it special.
Sabelo was inspired to start this initiative because he wanted to celebrate and encourage the hard work, talent, and achievements of learners. He believes that recognizing their efforts helps build confidence and motivates others to do their best.
One challenge he faced was getting enough funds and support. He overcame this by working with the Kota Festival and involving the school community. Another challenge was planning the award ceremony smoothly, which he managed by creating a clear schedule and getting help from a good team.
His future plan is to make the awards ceremony bigger and better each year. He wants to include more schools, new award categories, and involve more community members to inspire and celebrate more learners.
There are also plans to expand beyond Ekurhuleni. Miyano’s Lifestyle aims to partner with more schools in other regions to reach and recognize more learners. This will help grow the impact of the awards and build a stronger connection across communities.
