At the Haven Dreamview Old Age Home on Wednesday, 15 November 2023, The Mobile Barber.Co held an outreach event as a way to give back to the community.
Elizabeth created The Mobile Barber, which was launched in 2019. The love of people, fostering relationships, and adding value to society served as the Mobile Barber Co.’s inspiration.
Their goal is to help the less fortunate by setting up a small mobile salon that visits impoverished areas and offers free haircuts to the residents.
“I feel blessed by the joy we bring to so many. This venture brings so much fulfilment to me personally. I am grateful every day because we are giving care, dignity, and respect to so many people,” Elizabeth mentioned.
Orphanages, senior homes, disability centres, centres for women abused by women, skill centres, schools, etc. are served by the mobile barber service. continuously offering free haircuts.
However initially, choosing the right car took some time, and the mobile salon’s layout required careful thought.
Elizabeth stated,” After some time we launched by ourselves and I must say that it was financially challenging to fund this great operation.”
“To make matters worse the Covid-19 ordeal happened soon after launching,” Elizabeth stated.
Within the week of its launch in February 2022, the first vehicle of Mobile Barber.Co was completely reserved. The demand was so high that “we introduced a second vehicle, so we reach more institutions.”
Both Johannesburg and Pretoria are served by the two cars. The ability of the mobile barber vehicle to enter areas of communities where people would typically not have access to such facilities gives it a far wider reach. They work Monday through Saturday for six days a week.
There are a total of four barbers there.
At an early age, Kabelo Kgampepe began cutting people’s hair. He said, “Mobile Barber. Co allowed me to help the needy, older people, and to do what I like.” the opportunity to travel to many locations, for which I am thankful.” The barber said.
People are grateful for the care that our service provides for them, and they can be emotional and grateful at times.
The manager in charge of maintenance and upkeep at MothwaHaven Dreamview said, “Since they have been coming and are regulars, the barber is excellent. The mobile barber comes and does the haircuts for most pensioners because they can’t afford to go to the hairdresser regularly. They love it and feel better.” Raynor, Ken.
“In the 4th quarter of 2021, I had the privilege of meeting with the operations leader from McDonald’s and I shared the vision of Mobile Barber Co.”
They began working together with McDonald’s SA in February 2022, with McDonald’s providing financial support for the initiative. They would also appreciate to get more sponsorship to take part.
“Having a relationship with McDonald’s SA is a true blessing. It leads to a very meaningful and distinctive contribution being made to communities,” Elizabeth continued.
