Mzomuhle Shabalala urges the community of ward 109 to vote him as local council candidate and shares his vision regarding the future of his community

As the local government elections are scheduled soon, Mzomuhle Lucas Shabalala encourages his community members to vote for him as the next local government council candidate and outlines the plans as well as actions that would be under his leadership should he win the local government councillor elections for ward 109 in Daveyton, Etwatwa.

As a proud South African man who grew up in Etwatwa and an intense political knowledge, Shabalala assures his community to be in competent care under his governorship. In his words, the community of Etwatwa extension 3 has raised him, moulded him and continues to inspire him. The passionate man further explained that his life has been shaped by service, activism and a commitment to social justice. “My journey into politics was driven by a deep conviction that communities must never be left behind.

As a resident of Etwatwa, I saw and know the struggles of ordinary families, the hopes of young people, and the resilience of our elders. Those experiences taught me that change does not happen its own people must stand up and take responsibility. From an early age, I felt compelled to help resolve conflicts, uplift others, and fight for fairness. Politics became the natural platform to champion the needs of my community, ensure accountability, and contribute to building a better society for all,” uttered Shabalala.

In his candidacy, he brings several qualifications in Human Resources, Labour Relations and Labour Law from institutions such as Institute of People Management (IPM), Rand Afrikaans University which is now called University of Johannesburg (UJ), the Graduate Institute of Management and Technology, including training in Dispute Resolution from the CCMA. Professionally, Shabalala served key roles in the City of Ekurhuleni and the City of Johannesburg as Manager for Dispute Resolution from 2002 to 2020. These roles undoubtedly sharpened his decision-making, communication, conflict resolution and strategic thinking skills that are effective for local governance.

Extensively, the free spirited man highlighted his organisational and political experience where he served on the ANC Regional Executive Committee from 1998 to 2007 and as Regional Treasurer from 2000 to 2007. He was also the Zonal Chairperson of Oscar Mabika Zone, covering Daveyton and Etwatwa. Currently, Shabalala serves as the Branch Chairperson of Ward 109 and the Head of Mobilisation of the Zonal Elections Team and works closely with Faith-Based Organisations including collaborating with past Ward Councillors on service delivery improvements. Furthermore, these roles have given him firsthand in understanding of the community’s priorities and how to mobilise effective solutions.

Speaking to Mr. Shabalala regarding his vision for the community of ward 109, he stated that he inspires to build a safe, organised and prosperous community within his ward. “I want to see: Reliable and responsive service delivery, including waste removal, road maintenance, water and electricity services,

o A safer community, working closely with SAPS, CPF structures, youth organisations religious leaders, street patrollers and community safety forums
o Opportunities for young people skills programmes, entrepreneurship support, sports facilities and mentorship initiatives.
o A clean and dignified ward, where parks, streets and public spaces are maintained and respected.
o Active community participation, where residents become partners in rebuilding our ward.
o Inclusive development, ensuring that women, youth, elders and people with disabilities have a voice in ward decisions.

At the heart of my vision is a simple promise: to restore hope, strengthen trust, and work tirelessly to deliver a better life for all in Ward 109,” eagerly shared Shabalala.

In ensuring that there is meaningful participation among community members and Shabalala, he attested that his belief in leadership that listens will play a pivotal role in problem solving. He added that he will host regular community meetings, strengthen the ward committee, create accessible communication platforms, and work together with churches, civic groups, youth structures and NGOs. Moreover, Shabalalala mentions that decision-making is key to building trust and ensuring residents feel ownership of their ward’s future.

As the by-elections approach, I want to humbly ask the people of Ward 109 to place their confidence in me on 10 December 2025. I am prepared to lead with honesty, compassion, and accountability. I stand ready to represent your voices, fight for your rights, and bring stability and progress to our ward.

Your vote is not just for me as a candidate—it is a vote for clean streets, functional services, safer communities, youth opportunities and a leadership that puts people first. I am committed to serving every resident, and together, we can build a stronger, more dignified ward 109,” concluded Shabalala.
