Germiston is getting a new park in the heart of the CBD, located between Meyer Road and Victoria Street, just behind the Dumisani Masilela Theatre. The park is still being built, but Ward 35 Councillor Ntuthuzeli Mpambani shared details about the project. He said the park, named Germiston Public Space, will bring life to the community. With the theatre nearby already attracting creative people, the park will add to the area’s vibrancy. “This space was open land, and we decided to turn it into a proper facility with gym equipment,” Mpambani explained.
He added that the city wants to clean up the CBD and create an attractive space around the theatre that meets international standards. This could help bring business and development to the area.“The city’s main offices are here, so it’s important to improve the surroundings. The SAPS is also working to stop public drinking near the theatre and deal with hijacked buildings, which are long-term challenges,” he said.
### Community Involvement
The project has been introduced to the community, and people are excited about it. “We must protect the park and its equipment once it’s finished. We don’t want it to be built only to be vandalized,” Mpambani said. A major positive aspect is that local people are working on the project. “We hired four local contractors, and nine community members got job opportunities through this project,” he added.
