Vosloorus was abuzz on September 23 as the Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Premier of Gauteng and the MEC of Community Safety joined the momentous Operation Okae Molao which was instituted to curb lawlessness in Gauteng.
The MEC of Safety, Faith Mazibuko, said, “We are here in Vosloorus in response of the lawlessness complaints that we received from community members about the area.
“Almost every Thursdays and Saturdays we carrying out our operation Okae Molao but today we have decided to come here to Vosloorus because we received too many complaints about the lawlessness in Vosloorus from communities, regarding the shebeens that play music until sunrise, general crimes like house break-ins, tuck-shop robberies, so we are here today to tackle those criminal activities,” MEC of Community Safety expressed.

However as the roadblock progressed the Premier addressed the various media houses which were on the ground level, saying, “The operations started last night in Vosloorus and so far the Police have arrested 244 wanted suspects, out of the 244 arrested suspects more than 50 of them are linked to Gender-based Violence(GBV) cases, they were also 3 suspects arrested for car dealings, 2 illegal shebeens were closed down, the people who have passed here today during this roadblock are law-abiding citizens, they are carrying their driving licenses and they have renewed their vehicle license discs,” Makhura uttered.
“We are here in the area to address the issues of crime, it was therefore important for us to deal with the issues of crime in this community today,” said the Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina.
