On 17 Oct between 12h00 and midnight in Edenvale and Primrose areas, the EMPD Drug Enforcement, Southern Region First Response Units, Germiston North Precinct Officers and the South African Police Service Members arrested five (5) male suspects and confiscated large quantities of narcotics along with illegally kept liquor.
At 16h00 in Edenvale area, following an intensified four (4) hours surveillance by the EMPD Anti-Drugs Squad, a 45-year old male caught by his flat on Van Riebeck avenue, with 40x packets of khat, 1x pack and 2x ziplocks of crystal meth valued at R360 000 was handcuffed and taken to Edenvale police station. The possibly undocumented Nigerian national and a potential drug supplier facing charges of possession and dealing in illicit substance was also slapped with falsifying official documents (due to his dodgy asylum seeker document) and charges in relation to immigrants Act were added.
Following numerous complaints of loud music and illegally operated taverns in the Makausi informal settlement situated in Primrose area, the EMPD Germiston North Precinct, First Response Officers and SAPS members moved in and four (4) male pub owners between the ages of 24 and 43, operating without required permits were arrested for contravening the liquor Act, before 18x crates of beer and ciders were seized and taken along to Primrose police station. While on site busy with the operation, gunshots roared nearby and as the integrated Team responded, the lifeless body of a male in his late 20s shot in the upper body was uncovered next to Stanley road and the SAPS officers took over.
All the arrestees are expected to appear at the Edenvale and Germiston Magistrate’s Court/s soon
