President Ramaphosa reveals 2024 election date

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that the 2024 General National and Provincial elections will take place on 29 May 2024. This decision, made in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and the Electoral Act of 1998, follows consultation with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and discussions with all 9 Provincial Premiers.

These elections mark 30 years of freedom and democracy in South Africa. President Ramaphosa urges all eligible voters to participate fully in this significant event in our democratic calendar.

“These elections are not only about fulfilling our constitutional duty but also about celebrating our democratic progress and shaping the future we desire. I encourage all South Africans to exercise their right to vote peacefully and lawfully. To those not yet registered, please use the online registration platform,” said President Ramaphosa.

The official proclamation of the election date will be issued in due course.
