Sticking to the vision of promoting the culture of writing and reading, the Redtree Publishers donated their recently published book titled “kids on social media” to a number of schools, one of them being Letsha Primary School in Daveyton as part of their corporate social responsibility.
The Redtree Publishers is a publishing company that unearths, mentor, and publish the work of local authors/storytellers.
“As a response to the growing use of social media by underage users, an increasing number of cyberbullying cases, human trafficking, and harmful content, the company has published the book to inculcate a culture of reading, writing, and to promote our book,” said Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi the director of the company.
“Our research has shown that some township-based schools have no functional libraries, and it is our main objective to assist them in establishing functional libraries. The book is beneficial in many ways as it promotes sensible and progressive use of social media, harnesses reading, writing skills, improves and language proficiency, and expands knowledge-based.
Mkhwanazi mentioned that the world compels us to raise awareness about the good and the bad of social media hence the book was published.
“Social media is an interactive technological tool that strengthens democracy, promoted access to information, improves the quality of education, and expands sources of information, yet the vast availability of technological gadgets such as smartphones, the access to social media platforms, and the instant interaction with the outside world by children”.
