“I can’t take it anymore, I had to travel to Sunward Park to buy bread,” said one of the helpers at Chris Hani Crossing.
The Kathorus residents joined forces with the employees of Chris Hani Crossing to fast-track the cleaning process of the shopping hub.
During the course, citizens of the Kathorus area who were helping out in the shopping spot seized the opportunity to express themselves, alluding that they are already feeling the repercussions of the anarchy.
“We are struggling in terms of purchasing items, and old people are feeling the brunt even more because they used to be comfortable in travelling short distances to buy whatever they needed in this mall.
“Now we are all back to square one because we have to travel to farfetched places to buy whatever that we need because of our immoral conducts as people, I remember when the mall was officially opened things became easier for us who are residing within its location.
“Today I’m here to speed up the rehabilitation process of the mall because we want our fellow brothers and sister to return to work and we earnestly need the mall operational again,” said Prince Vuyo Melkial from Katlehong.
More cleaners came forward, sharing their pain and loss, Thapelo Ntsoaba from Vosloorus uttered, saying, “I’m here to assist and I can’t take it anymore, I had to travel to Sunward Park to buy bread because I can’t find it anywhere here in my neighbourhood.”
Another cleaning volunteer (Xolani Magagula) who also reside in Vosloorus expressed, saying, “When I heard that people have taken it upon themselves to clean the mall, I couldn’t sit back, so I decided to come and offer my assistance because we all need this shopping mall,”
