Residents of wards 24 and 25 casted their votes today

Residents of Crystal Park and Petit took a leap of faith as they headed to their designated voting stations to make their mark early this morning.

Ekurhuleni News visited the local voting stations in Crystal Park Primary School (ward 24) and Petit High School (ward 25). The IEC presiding officer at Crystal Park Primary School, George Mphahlele, said they opened on time and all the COVID-19 protocols were observed.

“The first resident came around 06:15 to cast his vote and everything has been running smoothly. The local SAPS and EMPD are on-site to ensure everything runs smoothly and they are also here to deal with any issues that arise during the course of the day,” said Mphahlele.

Godright Sekhoela, the IEC presiding officer at Petit High School, mentioned that some residents arrived as early as 06:00 to vote.“We experienced a few glitches, some voters were directed to other voting stations due to the changes that were made to the municipal boundaries, they appear on our system when checked them, however, everything has been sailing smoothly,” said Sekhoela.

The enthusiastic first-time voter Thulile Kekana (18) said the experience was nerve-racking but she is happy that she has made her mark.
