Residents warned to pay attention to early signs of Mpox virus.

The City of Ekurhuleni has noted the detection of Mpox cases in Gauteng by the Gauteng Department of Health. Thus, the city cautions residents to promptly report suspected symptoms. Those who come into contact with known cases are advised to present themselves at healthcare facilities on time for early diagnosis and effective treatment.

The city will also use health promoters to educate patients at clinic waiting areas about the signs and symptoms they should look out for and encourage them to seek medical care when presenting with suspected symptoms.

One of the signs residents should look out for is a distinctive rash that can look like pimples or blisters. This rash can start on the face, inside the mouth and spread to other parts of the body like the hands, feet, chest or genitals.

Mpox can spread through close contact of any kind with someone who has been exposed to the virus. It can spread through kissing, hugging, sexual contact and sharing items such as bedding, towels, and clothing.
