The South African National Blood Bank Service (SANBS), has made the profound effort to proactively to ensure that the citizens of South Africa are provided with life- saving blood service made available through their “Mall to Action” blood drives. On the 29th May 2025, the SANBS mobile operated its blood nation drive at Chris Hani Mall, as part of its campaign rolled out nationally.
According to SANBS Press Relation Manager, Peter Mafela, special promotions such as the “Mall to Action” in places like Chris Hani Mall – and other areas around Ekurhuleni like Daveyton Mall always garner a positive outcome. “Our major reason for the blood drives is to save people’s lives.” He said. Mafela asserted that at Chris Hani, the response of people donating blood was largely positive – where SANBS on a day that is busy gathers no less than 80 units of blood, and, at least 25 – 35 units on days that are less busy.
In Chris Hani people are encouraged to donate blood, when the mobile blood bank is available in the area. This is once a month, typically mid-month on Saturdays and Mondays.
Margaret Mabaso, a SANBS nurse, who worked at the Chris Hani branch, said that while some people come in afraid of getting pricked with the needle that draws blood – their work is to ensure that they feel safe and comfortable as they donate.
