SATMA winners make an appearance

Following the theme, My Culture, Your Culture, One Nation the 17th Annual South African Traditional Musical Awards accomplished a memorial night for all guests present at the Satmas on Saturday, 1 October 2022 at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.

Guest artists and performers gave astonishing performances to entertain the audience and the drivers of the show Lesley Musina and Kajal Maharaj kept the standard high.

Keeping to the traditional aspects, the Satmas guests came in bracing the red carpet in their beautiful traditional clothes that honoured culture and beliefs.

Artists that performed their hearts out were Intaba Yase Dubai, Zama Khumalo, Lebo Sekgobela, Cevuzile, Nathi Mankanyi, and Nomcebo Zikhode.

This year’s Satma awards had a number of 125 nominees in 26 categories.

Winning for the second time under the category of Best Praise Singer, Masingita Shibambu known as Intombi Ya Mutsonga mentioned that this award shows that people are in love with her work and the support is overwhelming.

“I love what I am doing, I am a proud Tsonga and I am grateful for this moment. This is the reason for me to keep working hard,” she said.

Speaking to Ekurhuleni News, Mthobisi Mthalane who won the award for Best Afro Jazz said, “This award is the first of the many to come. I haven’t been lucky in winning, I have been nominated seven times before without winning, however, this year things took a turn,” said Mthalane.

He further stated that he is happy to take the award home.

Making the appearance of the day, 2019 Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi was honoured by the Satmas with an award of appreciation.

“Heritage is beautiful crafting of selflessness, pride, love, and belonging. A love letter from our ancestors so that we may always find a home. Thank you satma awards for honouring my life and my little contributions to the culture and the world.

Satma’s founder Dumisani Goba announced that after three years of Mpumalanga hosting the Satmas they will be moving to KZN for the next coming three years. And Satmas CEO, Zandile Ndzimande thanked all the guests for their presence and the Department of Arts and Culture for hosting the event.
