“Normal” was what the Etwatwa resident wanted for all attending school children. Christina Sesi Mahlangu the founder of Dream Foundation wants to bring love and hope to vulnerable children. Dream Foundation team is currently running a school shoe drive that started in 18 April 2021 and it will end in March 2022. They are hoping to get donations to help those who are disadvantaged.
The foundation was founded in 2019 after a dream Christina had in grade 11 when she would see kids walk to school lacking school shoes, for some, she felt they walked barefooted. The main purpose of the foundation is to see responsible men and independent women.
“That wasn’t normal for me, no child deserves that. I remember when I told my friend that we use our pocket money to buy a school shoe for that one child who gives me restless nights and we managed to do that even though it was not enough,” said Mahlangu.
The foundation focuses on both girls and boys because she believes that no child must be left unassisted.
“We tackle matters that affect the mental state of young people. With all the teenage pregnancy, GBV and the crime we experience from young people, I believe that these issues are contributing factors to young people’s lives so we can’t jump to judge these young souls we rather start the talks that will prevent these cases from going further,” she added.
The God-fearing woman explained that they help out young people by being a support system to them in order for them to reach their goals. They host events and campaigns such as the one they are currently busy with where they collect school shoes for learners and deliver them in schools.
In their bag already they have achieved a lot by only restoring hope and love on young people. They have donated more than 50 school shoes in Bafo Chiko Primary School, they held a women seminar at Dinoto Technical School in Daveyton, and they also had a fun day with children from Mayfield.
The foundation consists of six hardworking and committed individuals who are striving to see a better community.
The public can assist by making financial contributions, or donating school shoes for the drive. For more information, contact the secretary of Dream foundation on 084 211 8925.
