Sivukile Community Project Bringing Free, Lifesaving Health Services to Kwa-Thema

By Sbongile Sokela
The Sivukile Community Project (S.C.P) was established to bridge the gaps in healthcare within the community. According to the coordinator Seipei Khoza, “Sivukile was created because we saw the need to fill the gaps of health services in our community, and we have the passion and love to work with our people.” This dedication forms the heart of the organisation’s mission to promote accessible healthcare for all.
Sivukile Community Project offers a wide range of essential services, including HIV, BP, blood glucose and index testing, along with TB, STI and mental health screening. Community members can also receive PrEP and PEP referrals, condom demonstrations and distribution, as well as general health education. These services are open to the community at large, including children from the age of 12.
The project follows all laws, policies and professional guidelines, ensuring informed consent and secure record-keeping. All services provided are completely free.
When necessary, Sivukule Community Project offers referrals to appropriate healthcare facilities. The organisation also provides pre- and post-counselling, as well as adherence counselling, to support clients throughout their health journey.
Support groups are part of Sivukile’s future plans, and the project continues to work with various stakeholders in the community to strengthen its reach. Through community outreach, including door-to-door visits and awareness campaigns, the team ensures that more residents access the care they need.
S.C.P operates Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:00 at 17 Tlakula Street, Kwa-Thema, Highland Section. They can be reached at 073 671 0593 during office hours or via email at sivukilecommunityproject70@gmail.com. Sivukile Community Project also shares statistics during its AGM and with its Board members. Reflecting on the organisation’s progress, Seipei adds, “Working with the Department of Health on different campaigns has helped us link patients to care and make a real difference in people’s lives.”
