On June 7, 2025, Bacha Ba Dichaba, in proud partnership with the Siyakha Foundation and SAAYC, hosted a vibrant and successful Spellathon Competition for primary school learners. The event brought together 150 enthusiastic learners from six schools across the region, highlighting the importance of literacy and learning in a fun, competitive environment.
The competition was held at Tshepo Themba Multipurpose Centre in Etwatwa and saw participation from the following schools and organizations: Tsakane Aftercare Network, Zamukhanyo Primary, George Mbilase Primary, Rolihlahla Primary, Madingoane Primary, and Thopodi Primary.
Teachers, parents, and community members came out in strong support, creating an encouraging and uplifting atmosphere for the young participants. For many learners, it was their first time taking part in such an event, and their excitement and determination were nothing short of inspiring.
The top 3 overall winners of the Spellathon Competition were:1. Sean Mogopane– Zamukhanyo Primary School, 2. Dimpho Tjiane – Madingoane Primary School, 3. Ntandoyenkosi Mtsweni – Tsakane Aftercare Network.
Winners were awarded for their spelling excellence, and all participants were commended for their efforts and enthusiasm throughout the day.
Looking ahead, Bacha Ba Dichaba and Siyakha Foundation are preparing for their upcoming Public Speaking Boot Camp and Literacy programs for Grade 6 and 7 learners across Gauteng Province. These initiatives aim to further empower young learners and build their confidence and communication skills.
