Benoni_ On Friday 03 June 2022 in the Benoni area, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) First Response Unit Members, nabbed three (3) suspects and unaccounted for items found in their motor vehicle, were confiscated.
Between 12h00 and 14h00 during roving roadblocks, the EMPD crime-fighting Team at the corner of Main reef and Hospital intersection, stopped a white Toyota Light Delivery Vehicle (LDV), with three (3) male occupants. The bakkie was thoroughly searched and underneath a seat, Officers uncovered a 9mm pistol with six (6) live rounds and five (5) suspected stolen cell phones. Since nobody inside the Toyota accounted for the suspicious items, the threesome facing charges of ‘possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition’ with that of possession of suspected stolen items, were handcuffed and marched to the Benoni police station.
The apprehended suspects are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon and the recovered firearm will go through the ballistic tests, to check if it was used in other criminal activities.
