THE CITY OF EKURHULENI IS READY TO HOST THE G20 SOCIAL SUMMIT

It is all systems go in the City of Ekurhuleni as preparations to host the (Group of 20) G20 Social Summit are at peak level.
The G20 Social Summit South Africa 2025 is a powerful platform for shaping international policy and cooperation. Since its inception in 1999, the G20 has grown from meetings of finance ministers to leaders’ summit, tackling issues from trade and sustainable development to energy and anti-corruption.
The City of Ekurhuleni is home to the O.R Tambo International Airport, and the gateway to the African continent. As such, the city and her citizens stand ready to welcome the world to Africa and to provide world class first-hand experience boasting our rich socio-economic amenities through our tourism sector while showcasing uninterrupted social services to our guests and providing safety assurance through our rock-solid law enforcement agencies working together with our disaster and emergency services.
The Birchwood hotel and conference centre in Boksburg, is already abuzz and a hive of activities building up to host the G20 social summit from Tuesday, 18 till Thursday, 20 November 2025, a precursor to the G20 world leaders’ summit.
The social summit seeks to elevate issues of social development, equity, and inclusion to the same level of urgency as macroeconomic and financial concerns. It will bring together a wide spectrum of stakeholders, governments, civil society, labour, youth, women, persons with disabilities, philanthropy, and grassroots organisations ensuring that the lived experiences of ordinary people help to shape G20 outcomes.
South Africa is the first country in the African continent to hold the Group of 20 (G20) presidency since December 2024 until November 2025.
