The return of Trains around the Katlehong Precinct

On Friday, 11 October 2024, The Station Commander Katlehong SAPS, Brigadier Albertina Vesi, hosted various stakeholders such as the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), Transnet, Gauteng Department of Community Safety (GDCS), Community Police Forums (CPFs) Cooperative Government of Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Ward Councilors, War Committees and various Police units at the Katlehong SAPS hall to discuss ways to prevent or protect the infrastructure from theft and vandalism ahead of the return of trains along Katlehong rail tracks.
As October is marked as a transport safety month, the engagement was put in place to also help ease the pressure on those commuters who always bear the brunt of paying an extra fare, simply because there are no other alternative modes of transportation to and from work every day.
The consultations are at an advanced stage as PRASA has assured residents that it’s only a matter of time before the return of the trains and that would also require a huge commitment from surrounding communities to devote themselves in protecting the infrastructure at all times.
Both SAPS Katlehong and Katlehong North Station Commanders are appealing to community members to look after the things that are of help to the community.
“These trains will boost the economy of Katlehong and will also assist in curbing high levels of unemployment rate as it will be easier for everyone to go and search for employment at an affordable price,” said Brig Vesi.
