The Significance of Passover

By Nobuhle L. Ngema
Doddy Buthelezi is the founder of Buyisithemba Foundation and The Seed Ministry. She was born in a Christian home. When she was growing up, she said she had a privilege to explore different religions and belief systems, but remained a firm believer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, “the only gospel that makes perfect sense to me and answers all my questions.
“Research shows that, the observance of Easter was influenced by various cultural and historical factors, including the connection to the Jewish Passover. The Jewish festival Pasach (Passover) commemorates the slavery of the Israelites in Egypt and their ultimate exodus to freedom.
“It also revealed a whole lot of things about Easter which is only found in KJV Acts 12:4. “Allow me to say, I believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The significance of the weekend’s celebration stems behind the fact that Jesus took away our sins and nailed them on the Cross of Calvary, so we can cross over and live. He DIED for us to LIVE and He ROSE for us to RISE.”
Mrs Buthelezi believes in everything being about having a belief system. She said, “we are driven by what we believe in. Whether you are conscious or unconscious about what you believe in, you still believe in something. There is an invisible world that rules the world that we live in. We connect to this world through our spirits hence it’s important to believe in God.”
She believes in Jesus Christ being her Saviour. “His mission statement in Isaiah 61/ Luke 4:18-19 proclaims that He came to set the Captives free and to heal the broken hearted, to comfort those who mourn and to preach good tidings. He is my healer and my deliverer.” Having said this, Easters gives her an opportunity to preach at Light of the World church using various platforms such as songs, drama, dance and illustrations by preachers.
However, preaching for her is a gift that doesn’t only illuminate through Easters, but an everyday thing even through her actions of love, and not just words. She has assisted many ladies with GBV profiles, got involved in a counselling tours to shelters, communities and prisons – where inmates were invited, legal partners, social and community workers as well as spiritual workers – to tackle the issue from different dimensions.
She did many other things according to the kind of intervention that was needed at the time.
All her actions stems from the book of Philippians 4:8 – which encourages believers to think about whatever is true, honourable and praiseworthy. “This verse emphasizes focusing on positive and virtuous thoughts and actions.”
