THREE FOUND IN POLICE UNIFORM WITH UNLICENSED FIREARMS FOLLOWING AN ATTEMPTED TRUCK ROBBERY – NABBED IN THEMBISA AREA

Yesterday (11 Nov) between Kempton Park and Thembisa areas, the EMPD North Region Task Team and Thembisa precinct Officers, arrested three (3) male suspects facing charges of impersonating Officers, fail to stop as instructed by Officers in uniform, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition with attempted truck hijacking/robbery.

At 14h10 in Kempton Park area, patrolling EMPD Members tried to stop and render assistance, to a white VW Polo sedan (thought to be an unmarked police vehicle) with a portable dashboard blue light, parked on the sidewalk parallel with a Heavy Motor Vehicle transporting cosmetics, with three (3) characters wearing Gauteng Traffic Police full uniform, who seemed to be struggling, to apprehend a male suspect (a little they knew that, it was an attempted truck hijacking). When EMPD Members stopped, the male civilian screamed ‘I am being hijacked’! before the trio jumped into the VW sedan, leaving the screamer and the truck behind. The chase ensued, while EMPD Officers called on the 2-way radio for more back-up. The suspicious Polo travelling in high speed, took Sam Molele drive in Thembisa area, lost control and crashed into a lamppost where the threesome, alighted and took on foot towards the nearest lake. Highly trained EMPD Officers managed to corner and arrested all three (3). The 9mm Vector and 9mm CZ firearms with serial numbers tempered with, few live rounds, two (2) sport bags containing a jammer device, SAPS and Gauteng Traffic Police uniform including reflective jackets, a portable blue and an emergency lights, were confiscated. The unscathed Heavy Motor Vehicle (truck) driver, who was treated for shock by paramedics on site, promised to register cases of attempted truck robbery and pointing of a firearm, at the Kempton Park police station. A VW Polo sedan suspects were using, with false registration/number plates, was impounded to Van Ryn’s Deep (SAPS yard) in Benoni, to be investigated further and for safe keeping.

The detained trinity booked at Thembisa police station, are expected to appear in the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
