A devastating collision occurred this morning 10 March on the N12 westbound, just before the Putfontein Road off-ramp, outside Daveyton. The crash involved a bakkie double cab and a Toyota Yaris. Four individuals have tragically lost their lives, and five others are critically injured. Emergency services responded swiftly after the incident was reported at 07:45.
William Ntladi, Media Liaison Officer for the City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), confirmed that the four deceased victims were scholars of various ages and attended different schools in Daveyton. The victims were declared dead at the scene by medical teams.
The City of Ekurhuleni DEMS, along with private medical services and law enforcement units, responded immediately. Rescue and recovery operations are ongoing as emergency personnel work to extricate those trapped in the wreckage.
As a result of the crash, the entire freeway is currently closed to traffic, causing significant disruptions for motorists. Authorities urge the public to avoid the area while emergency teams continue their life-saving efforts.
Emergency services are diligently working to provide care to the critically injured and ensure the safe removal of all individuals from the vehicles involved.
