On the 10th of May 2025, Apostle Nomsa Zulu, from Katlehong, the founder of Upon this Rock Ministries and Ungazibulali Siphelel Sonke organisation, gathered women from different places – Bible school, community, organisation. The purpose of high tea was to address differences, personalities, and characters.
Women had the privilege to talk about things they don’t normally talk about because they are always expected to be strong, hold it together, put on a façade, be “imbokodo”, and hold the sharp end of the stick. Nomsa gave them a platform to ask whatever it is they wanted to ask, or talk about as they were graced by the presence of the pharmacists, and other people of different expertise on certain topics.
The event started with them praising God and being saturated in the spirit. And the reason behind this, Apostle Nomsa said it is because she wanted women to remember that God is still in control, that He’s still God and can heal the hearts and bandage the wounds of his people.
She also just wanted to empower women.
They have never had high tea before, this was their first. Apostle Nomsa realized how broken people were when she wrote and published, ‘ungazibulali siphelele sonke.’ People started confronting her with their problems and challenges. “Some were suicidal, some going through a divorce, some suffered depression.” the Apostle said.
That’s when she realized the silent battles people are battling with on a daily basis, and that’s how her organisation, by the same name, came about.
The title ‘ungasibulali siphele sonke’ is a revelation she got from the book of Matthew 16:25.
Since some things cannot be addressed on pulpit level, she saw an opportunity to hand over the high tea gift to women prior to their precious day.
Women were able to be vulnerable in front of other women, expressed themselves, and advised one another. They went from talking about health – with Busisiwe Mahloko, the pharmacist, providing insight – to talking about their household problems.
As they shared, each realized that her problems weren’t as worse when she listened to another woman’s story. They provided a place of comfort; became their own safe places.
Some cried, but realized they were weren’t alone as they initially thought, there were others who faced the same dilemma or even worse.
Busisiwe encouraged a healthy mind. “A healthy mind gives correct message to the body because the body responds to the brain”, quoting proverbs 17:22. She also said some illnesses are caused by women always wanted to tangle matters they do not have control of, instead of just relaxing.
“When I’m late,” she made an example about herself, “I don’t panic.” she said. “Because it doesn’t change the fact that I’m late. I just relax. Relaxing keeps me calm.”
She advised the same approach to be tried by women, instead of always shouting, wanting to apply corporal punishment even when it’s not needed.
She said it was important for her to come and address women on health, because it’s something that people ignore, or don’t even take serious. She focused on emotional and mental health.
Women encouraged for such particular events to be the first of many.
