A suspected robber has been stoned and burned to death by the mob in Ivory Park Ext 2 after a pastor was fatally shot and 3 other congregants injured and taken to hospital.
On Saturday, March 30, seven armed robbers stormed the church service and demanded cash and valuable items such as cell phones, watches, and other items.
As they were fleeing, one of the suspected robbers was caught by the community members. He was stoned and burned to death, after a Church robbery where the pastor was shot and killed, during Good Friday Church Service in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The community is very upset at the high crime rate in the area. “We don’t know what to do now, thugs even rob people at funerals. It’s like living in the jungle, something needs to be done. We cannot live like this,” said a visibly upset community member.
The other six robbers are still at large. Investigations are already underway and valuable pieces of information have been collected from the scene. Police are confident that someone will be arrested for this. At this stage, no arrests have been made.
“As much as crime is a concern for all of us, it is important that we refrain from taking the law into our own hands,” Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said.
