Walk Fresh team finds its freedom in what they do. They got a chance to define themselves and be part of South African households and families. Some of the processes and techniques they use are not found in textbooks or digital platforms, they use original techniques handed down by those before them. The skill of utilizing a toothbrush for polishing shoes and using tissue paper for drying sneakers are those they have inherited.
This team, originally from Daveyton, has a passion for creating a brighter and more inspired community. Walk Fresh is a home that provides a space to build one another and circulate positive conversations. In this home, they remind themselves about the importance of contributing positively to society. Walk Fresh is their hope for the opportunities unseen, and a hub filled with possibilities for every youth in our society, as a response to the unemployment rate that is on the rise.
The Walk Fresh team believes that their craft is their medium to narrate their culture and tradition to the world. To this team of young people, every day presents an opportunity to preserve and hold on to their grandfather’s heritage of polishing and washing shoes, as this gives them a sense of belonging.
