Adhering to the theme ‘Fixing each other’s thrones (wounds)’ the former Ekurhuleni West six (6) stations that fall under Katlehong, Ekurhuleni District representatives together with other stakeholders such as POWA, DSD, CPWs, DOH, DCS, BRIGADES, Green Door ambassador, Sinethemba Kuzolunga organization, Umelusi Osiza Abantu, New Ithemba labantwana, church leaders, and neighboring station CPF women representatives gathered at Katlehong main hall for a Women Empowerment Seminar on Tuesday, 27 August 2023.
As women who are taking the lead in various portfolios, they shared the center stage about the difficulties that women go through and how some even turn a blind eye to their partners when they victimize their own children.
Guest speaker who is also a motivational speaker Ms Noxolo Mshweshwe spoke a mouthful of words under the theme ‘Who am I’.
Some of the women couldn’t hold their tears when they heard reality stories where a father raped and impregnated his own daughter and the mother was ignorant/defensive about it just because the father was the only source of income.
“This event was held at SAPS Katlehong in a fully capacited hall for common reasons, one of those is that, Police are mothers, fathers, and guardian angels to many as they are always first responders to any situations including those traumatic ones.
“At times, in such instances, they are obligated by law to stand their ground or take a decision within a split second but having such events coming directly to them gives an extra moral to remain committed to their daily duties,” said constable Sivenkosi Mtwa of Katlehong SAPS.
Furthermore, these women were pampered with gifts and goodie bags and were served breakfast and lunch. After a brighter day, they had it as a way of showing them appreciation.
Ending the seminar on a higher note, All the women agreed that they should not wait for Women’s Month for them to cherish one another as the country is running short of women who will be exemplary of the women of 9 August 1956.
