A few workers express how much they delay returning to work after the holiday season. With the 5th of January being the date most workers return to work, most feel that they should have been given more time off.
Cheryl Sibanyoni, a 42-year-old female working in the government sector expressed that she would have appreciated more time off, especially after her company closed late for the holidays. “I would’ve appreciated if we opened mid January. We closed on the 24th of December, which was Christmas Eve, I feel like we didn’t get enough time to relax and bond with our families and friends. However, I remain grateful for a job because most people are not as fortunate as me,” uttered Sibanyoni.
Amahle Mabuza, a media practitioner who is 30 years of age and residing in Springs shared that working in a private company comes with the benefit of resuming work later, unlike most other companies “I work as a media consultant, freelance writer and marketing manager for a private company based in Johannesburg and we only go back to work on the 14th of January. I’m fortunate that I work remotely most of the time, so I spend time with my family regularly,” chuckled Mabuza.
Meanwhile, Zandile Mahlangu who works as a teacher at a primary school shared that she cannot wait for her return to work. “I have been off work since early December 2025. I return to work in two weeks and I must say, being a teacher isn’t as bad as most people think because they envy us now,” giggled Mahlangu.
