World Speech Day South Africa (WSD SA), in partnership with TAB NPC and Constitution Hill, will be hosting the Storytelling & Speech Showcase Flagship Event as part of the 10th Anniversary World Convention on the 13th of March 2025, from 11h00 to 12h30, at 11 Kotze Street, Johannesburg.
The Storytelling & Speech Showcase is a celebration of the rich oral traditions that has shaped communities and cultures for generations. Set against the historically significant backdrop of Constitution Hill, this event will bring together storytellers & speakers who will share narratives that inspire, educate, and ignite meaningful dialogue. Constitution Hill, a symbol of resilience and transformation in South Africa, provides the perfect setting to honour the power of words in shaping our collective future.
The 10th Anniversary World Convention of World Speech Day is a global celebration, with events planned across multiple countries to mark a decade of fostering speech and storytelling for social impact. In South Africa, in addition to the flagship event, various satellite events will be hosted by WSD SA’s UN SDG Book Clubs, creating platforms for young voices to engage with the themes of sustainability, leadership, and empowerment. Another highlight is the World Speech Day Virtual Women’s Forum, an initiative by WSD Women and the East African Community, launching as part of this milestone celebration.
This showcase is hosted in collaboration with TAB NPC, an Arts Development Co-operative whose intent is to transform the creative sector capability and mindset towards a feasible and sustainable creative sector. The Oral Storytelling programme is one of their flagship programmes, aimed at developing oral storytellers who can elevate and advance the ancient art of storytelling in community, corporate, and personal spheres. Through this partnership, the event will highlight the importance of preserving storytelling and speech making as an integral part of cultural expression and knowledge sharing.
