Odwa Dyonase, originally from Queenstown in the Eastern Cape and now residing in Daveyton, is the founder of OD Pest Control Solution, a business that started with nothing but vision, grit, and a passion to make a difference.
“I started my company in 2021,” says Odwa. “I had nothing. My bank account balance was 0.00. But I believed in my dream.”
OD Pest Control Solution offers fumigation services focused on both health and agriculture. But for Odwa, this work goes far beyond spraying chemicals. “I was inspired by Mr. Maponya and Mr. Colgate. I wanted to create something with my name too, and show young people that success isn’t just for the rich. Anyone with passion can start a business.”
His mission is clear to create pest-free, healthier spaces for families and communities. “We make sure pests don’t touch food or spread diseases. We want every home, farm, or business to be safe and clean,” he explains.
The journey was not easy. “In the beginning, I had only one customer who paid R300 and called me twice a year,” he recalls. “There were times I wanted to give up, but I kept going. I treat my clients like family, and I stay humble. That’s what helped my business grow.”
Odwa also believes pest control is essential to food safety. “Farmers are feeding the world,” he says. “We have to make sure their products are protected before they reach big stores.”
Education is a big part of his approach. “I teach my clients to take pest problems seriously. Don’t wait. Take action,” he advises.
But it has not all been smooth. “Some people don’t see the value in pest control. Others want to underpay us or do it themselves. We have even taken clients to small claims court and lost. Still, we keep going, we never lose sight of our mission.”
To keep improving, OD Pest Control stays up to date with the latest tools and techniques. “We attend workshops, conferences, and events. Training is very important,” Odwa says.
His dream for the future is simple but powerful. “I want OD to grow so we can help others grow. We’re not just solving pest problems we’re building a better future for everyone.”
He adds, “It’s not just business to me. It’s about protecting lives, food, and communities.”
