WREATH LAYING CEREMONY IN HONOR OF O.R TAMBO

In commemoration of Oliver Reginald Tambo’s birthday, the City of Ekurhuleni organized a wreath-laying ceremony to acknowledge and honor his contributions to the liberation of the country’s democracy. This prestigious yet humble event took place at Tambo memorial site located in Wattville, on the 27th of October 2022.

The above-mentioned South African icon, devoted himself to the struggle that would one day give all South Africans the liberty and privileges in unity we enjoy today. In a customary celebration of years, more than a centenary Tambo was greatly remembered for his attributes.

Dignitaries from far and wide had come to grace the event with their presence. Nkosinathi Mthethwa, Panyaza Lesufi, and Mzwandile Masina were among the prestigious guests without forgetting the descendants of the legend himself, Nomathemba and Dali Tambo.

“Oliver Tambo was a visionary, he had an idea of this South Africa years before it began. He did not only lead us to dismantle the apartheid system, but he also led us to the reconstruction of a new South Africa. He believed a true non-racial South Africa was possible,” exclaimed Lesufi whilst delivering his speech.

The event was that of honor to the memory of Tambo alongside his comrades. Every person who had the privilege to deliver a speech spoke with passion and vivid memory of Oliver’s contributions. Although the event was orientated at Tambo’s wreath laying, it was more of a stride back to the struggle that led to democracy.

“This place is a place of public memory and national pride, where we go not to mourn but mobilize ourselves for a better and brighter tomorrow,” said Dali Tambo.
