On 30 August 2025, the Bacha Ba Dichaba Explorers held a Quiz Whiz Competition at the Jerry Moloi Library, bringing together learners, educators, and stakeholders in celebration of education and knowledge.
The initiative formed part of the organisation’s broader literacy programmes, which also include the Writing Spelling Bee Competition, aimed at strengthening reading skills and improving learners’ understanding of the world around them.
The organisation’s efforts have been bolstered by the support of stakeholders including 100% Foundation, Jerry Moloi Library, and Gauteng Provincial Library Information Services (GPLIS). Their involvement highlights the importance of partnerships in ensuring that young people are empowered through education.
The Bacha Ba Dichaba team, comprising Lebohang Namane, Fernando Makhetha, Mpho Netshezwe, and Duduzile Mlauza, acknowledged the challenges faced by learners, such as limited knowledge about their surroundings and the effects of a changing education system. They stressed that continued adaptation and investment in literacy programmes are crucial in addressing these challenges.
The competition also provided an opportunity to celebrate excellence. At the primary school level, learners from George Mbilase Primary School excelled, with winners including Tshegofatso Fenyane, Nonhlanhla Nkambule, and Minenhle Hlongwane. At the high school level, the top achievers were Sandisile Magubane from Amos Maphanga Secondary School, Gosiame Mlauza from Harry Gwala Secondary School, and Amanda Sebeso from Phandimfundo Secondary School.
Bacha Ba Dichaba extended heartfelt gratitude to its NYS Team and stakeholders for their support in making the programme a success. The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing literacy, broadening knowledge, and equipping learners with the tools to thrive academically and socially.
