Lakeside Mall’s Heart of Gold initiative continues to touch hearts and uplift spirits, bringing comfort and kindness to pensioners on the first SASSA grant day of each month. The initiative offers free meals and essential services, turning what is often a long day of waiting into a warm, community-driven experience filled with care and appreciation.
With pay points conveniently located at Shoprite and Pick n Pay, the initiative ensures easy access for pensioners collecting their grants. Both retailers, along with a number of tenants and partners, came together to make this month’s Heart of Gold a success.
Shoprite sponsored coffee and creamer and partnered with their supplier Joekels Tea Packaging, who generously supplied Laager Rooibos, Refley Tea, and Canderel sweeteners. Pick n Pay provided tea, coffee, creamer, and sandwiches, while Dis-Chem offered free cholesterol and diabetes testing. Torga Optical contributed complimentary eye tests and vouchers, and FNB was on-site to assist with account openings, queries, and general banking guidance.
“A special shoutout to Joekels Tea Packaging and Canderel for the refreshing Laager Rooibos and Refley Tea – you truly brought the flavour of care!” said Prudence Thenjekwayo, Marketing Manager at Lakeside Mall. “At Lakeside Mall, we’re more than just shopping – we’re about community, care, and creating moments that matter.”
Through Heart of Gold, Lakeside Mall continues to demonstrate its commitment to building meaningful connections and giving back to the community it serves, proving that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
